TOM CALVANELLI CLASS OF '63 YEAR OF INDUCTION: 2013 Tom Calvanelli graduated from Steinert in 1963, playing football, baseball and basketball. He was named to the All-City football first team, All-Area football fourth team in 1962 and named football honorable mention in 1961. He was named to the All-City third team for baseball in 1963 and was a member of the 1962 Central Jersey Group III State Champion baseball team at Steinert. Calvanelli enrolled in the U.S. Air Force Academy from 1963-1967, receiving a Bachelor of Science in Aeronautical Engineering. Tom was part of the Falcon baseball program. He was a US Air Force Pilot from 1967-1972, flying the F4 Phantom and the OV-10A Bronco. He did 300-plus combat missions as a Forward Air Controller in Southeast Asia, receiving 13 air medals and the Distinguished Flying Cross. Calvanelli continued to fly as a line pilot and an instructor/check pilot for Delta Air Lines from 1972 to 2004. He has been married to Victoria Burns for 36 years and they reside in Kennesaw, Ga.
