Tom Calvanelli graduated from Steinert in 1963, playing football, baseball and basketball. He was named to the All-City football first team, All-Area football fourth team in 1962 and named football honorable mention in 1961. He was named to the All-City third team for baseball in 1963 and was a member of the 1962 Central Jersey Group III State Champion baseball team at Steinert.

Calvanelli enrolled in the U.S. Air Force Academy from 1963-1967, receiving a Bachelor of Science in Aeronautical Engineering. Tom was part of the Falcon baseball program.

He was a US Air Force Pilot from 1967-1972, flying the F4 Phantom and the OV-10A Bronco. He did 300-plus combat missions as a Forward Air Controller in Southeast Asia, receiving 13 air medals and the Distinguished Flying Cross.

Calvanelli continued to fly as a line pilot and an instructor/check pilot for Delta Air Lines from 1972 to 2004.

He has been married to Victoria Burns for 36 years and they reside in Kennesaw, Ga. Tom and Vicki have three children and two grandchildren.
