JOE CAPONE

CLASS OF '79

YEAR OF INDUCTION: 2012

Joe Capone, a former two-sport standout at Steinert, showed his heart - and a lot of skill - as he earned all-county recognition and served as a team captain in football and baseball. For six seasons he wore the Green & White – three each in football and baseball. In 1978, he was Player of the Year in football and earned Elks Senior 11 recognition for the back-to-back Hamilton Township champion Spartans. He also helped the baseball team capture a state championship in 1978 when -- after an ordinary start to the season, the Spartans never lost again en route to a 20-4 record and the Mercer County and NJSIAA Group IV tournament titles.

His post-high school endeavors included leading the Hightstown American Legion Post 148 Flag Football team to national prominence. In 1985, Hightstown captured the national flag football title in Willoughby, Ohio, and Post 148 was runner-up in '86 in Flint, Mich.
