STEVE COLLIS

CLASS OF '65

YEAR OF INDUCTION: 2014

At Steinert High School, Steve was a varsity soccer and baseball player receiving All-City and All-County for both sports and was an All-State soccer player.

Collis took his talents to the campus of the University of Rhode Island where he set the school scoring record for the soccer program, led the Yankee Conference in scoring and was an All-East selection soccer player.

While at URI Steve was also the place kicker for the football team and was among the first wave of “soccer-style” kickers in the nation.

Whether it was three points or one, Steve Collis reached his goal twice in the same day. He scored the game-winning goal and the game-winning field goal on the same day against New Hampshire.

After his college days were over he continued playing soccer on local high-level amateur teams including the Trenton Extension, New Brunswick Hungarians, Fairlawn Soccer Club, and the Cranbury Kickers.

Steve’s knowledge of the game led him to the campus of the Peddie School where he was the head boys' soccer coach for 20 years, recording his 200th victory in his last game in 2004.

He was named All-Area Prep coach of the year in 1993 and 1999.

Steve has been inducted into the Mercer County Soccer Hall of Fame in 2000 and the Peddie School Sports Hall of Fame in 2008.

Unfortunately, Steve passed away unexpectedly shortly after retiring in 2008.
