A three-sport athlete, Derrico earned all-county recognition in soccer and softball and was a letter
winner in basketball. An All-American selection in soccer, Derrico was a key member of the state
championship team in 1988.
She continued to play soccer and softball at George Mason University in Virginia. Following
ACL reconstruction surgery twice (one in high school and again in college) she continues to play
softball in a woman’s league and participates in marathons and triathlons. Currently she is a physical
therapy assistant where she helps young athletes overcome their injuries and an EMT at a fire company
near her home in Round Hill, Virginia.
