Dan captained Steinert’s 1984 Group III championship team and holds the school record for goals in a
season with 36. As a senior, he was a finalist for the New Jersey Player of the Year award, when he
was the state’s fourth leading scorer. Dan was named to All-America teams by the National Soccer
Coaches, Parade Magazine and Adidas. He was a two-time All-State selection by the New Jersey Soccer
Coaches Association and the Newark Star-Ledger. Donigan’s prowess extended into the winter, when he
won a District 25 wrestling title. He was named Male Spartan of the Year as a senior.
At the University of Connecticut, Dan’s career led to him being named the Big East’s Player of the
Decade for the 1980’s. Donigan was a three-time All-American, earned the Adi Dasslar Award as the
nation’s Most Outstanding Senior Soccer Player, and led UConn to three NCAA tournament berths.
Donigan played indoor professional soccer with the Wichita Wings, St. Louis Storm, St. Louis Ambush
and St. Louis Steamers, and outdoor with the Boston Bolts, Penn-Jersey Spirit and Tampa Bay Rowdies.
