TARA EUBANKS-HANEY

CLASS OF '87

YEAR OF INDUCTION: 2009

For the first 20-something years of her life, team sports were the way to go for Tara Eubanks-Haney. The Spartan of the Year at Steinert High for 1986-87, Eubanks excelled in softball and basketball and she dabbled in field hockey. She captained the Spartans’ basketball and softball teams and earned all-star recognition in both. Some Steinert alumni may remember her for her work assisting the athletic trainer during the fall sports season.

At Tennessee Tech University, she focused her attention mainly on softball. Post-college has been a different story for the former Hamilton Township resident who has achieved greatness in different athletic venues including karate and kickboxing. Eubanks-Haney is a fourth-degree black belt who was a National Blackbelt League World Champion in 1996. She also earned two gold medals, as well as a silver and bronze, at the International Amateur Kickboxing Sport Association World Championships from 1999-2005. She is a karate instructor, leading three or four classes most weekdays as well as conducting the tests to allow the participants to move on their way to the coveted black belt. Much of her success can be traced back to her days as a youth in Hamilton Township. “My experience at SHS was that of appreciation and respect,” Eubanks-Haney noted. “The work ethic and dedication that I developed from my teachers and coaches has allowed me to be very successful in many areas of my life – as a person, coach and even a parent.”
