Fink centered a forward line that struck terror in opposing teams throughout Mercer County and the
state, as the Spartans went 24-0-0 and rolled to the NJSIAA Group IV title. Fink collected 34 goals
and 24 assists during that season, and was named All-American and the NJSIAA New Jersey Schoolboy
Player of the Year. He was also the VFW Athlete of the Year and won Kearny’s Fred Coggin Memorial
Award as New Jersey’s Outstanding Soccer Player. In 2000, the Newark Star-Ledger named him to New
Jersey’s 1970’s All-Decade team.
Fink went on to North Carolina State University, where he made the ACC’s All-Freshman team,
and earned All-ACC honors for two years. In 1989, Fink was inducted into the Mercer County Hall of
Fame, and in 2002 entered the New Jersey High School Hall of Fame.
