DAVID HUTCHINSON

CLASS OF '98

YEAR OF INDUCTION: 2015

The Steinert High School coaching staff has had an impact on David Hutchinson for as long as he can remember.

"Coach (Roger) Bigos was a huge influence on me since I was little. He and my dad coached me in all sports as far back as I can remember,” said David, son of former SHS coach Bob Hutchinson. (Coach Bigos) was tough on me but when it was all said and done, I really appreciated it.

“I was also fortunate to have been coached by outstanding coaches like Coach (Al) Mostrangeli, Coach (Jack) Bell, and Coach (Jim) Giglio. They all had a positive impact on my athletic career.

“Mr. Giallella, as the AD, was always positive and supportive and another person that I looked up to.

"I was sincerely fortunate to have these people around me, for without them I would not have been as successful."

Success for David included four seasons of basketball at SHS and all-star selections in 1997 and 1998. He scored 1,187 points and helped the Spartans capture Central Jersey Group IV championships in ’97 and ‘98. In ’98, Steinert was a state finalist.

“My years at Steinert were some of the best and most memorable years of my life,” he said. “I feel very fortunate to have been a part of Steinert athletics. I always felt like I was part of a big family.

“My whole senior year as a basketball player (was memorable). Always playing in front of packed gyms and most of the time winning.”

He credits his high school coaches for their input with him on and off the field. And he knows there are many people who have shared in the success and made the experience so enjoyable.

“My parents were always there from the start,” David said. “Taking me to all my practices and games after work and (on) weekends.

Also making it special were the lifelong friendships that were cultivated.

“All my friends I was able to play with my whole athletic career made it great," he said.
