ANDRE MODICA

COACH

YEAR OF INDUCTION: 2012

Andre Modica coached the varsity boys' track teams of 1978-81 and 1983-85. His Spartans compiled a .817 winning percentage in dual meets, won three division titles and one county championship. He was recognized as Coach of the Year in 1979 for leading SHS to the county crown. During his tenure as varsity coach, the Spartans broke all but three of the all-time track and field records at Steinert. All-time school records were established in the 100-, 400-, 800-, 1600- and 3200-meter runs, the high and intermediate hurdles, the 4x400 and 4x800 relays, the discus, javelin, high jump and pole vault.

In the six years prior to becoming head coach, Modica coached the freshman track team from 1972-77 to a combined record of 40-4 (a .909 winning percentage) including three undefeated and untied seasons.

He also was an assistant winter track coach for five seasons and the freshman cross country coach for one year. Modica was a co-founder of the Hamilton Township Recreation Department Summer Track and Field Program along with fellow Hall of Fame Coach Doug Martin.
