Pivovarnick was the school’s first boy’s soccer coach in 1956, and two years later, he guided the
Spartans first official varsity team to an 11-0-3 record. Pivo became Steinert’s first girls’
coach and led that 1977 team to a 14-0 record. He coached the boys from 1956-68 and the girls
from 1977-92. In between, Bob coached Rider, and had a combined 406-136-50 record with the three
programs.
As boys coach, Pivo led Steinert to its first state soccer title in 1966. He also guided
the Spartans to a city championship in 1959. With the girls, he led Steinert to five undefeated
regular seasons, an NJSIAA Group III title, three Group III championship games and six sectional titles.
Steinert won Mercer County crowns during the first four years of the program’s existence, and won
two Colonial Valley Conference championships. The Spartans were ranked in the nation’s top 20 in
1987 and 1988. Pivo coached seven All-Americans, was Mercer County Coach of the Year four times,
CVC Coach of the Year once, and National Soccer Coaches Associate Regional Coach of the Year twice.
He is in the New Jersey Soccer Coaches men and women halls of fame, and the Mercer County Soccer
Hall of Fame.
