JIM WILNO

COACH

YEAR OF INDUCTION: 2006

Jim was Steinert’s first football and basketball coach, guiding the Spartan gridders from 1959 to 1961 and leading the hoop team from 1959 to 1970. And while he made his mark in football more as an official, Wilno was considered a top-flight basketball coach.

When he wasn’t coaching, the Rutgers graduate was a football, basketball and track official, and refereed football for 46 years. He was Football Referee of the Year in 1990. A Lieutenant Colonel in the Air Force, Jim had a 36-year career at Steinert, teaching English and Science before moving into administration. After retiring in 1985, he served as a volunteer at Nottingham High for 15 years until his death.
